Romanian / Limba Română is an Eastern Romance language spoken as a native language primarily in Romania and Moldova. Romanian is a part of the Eastern Romance sub-branch of Romance languages, a linguistic group that evolved from several dialects of Vulgar Latin, which was separated from the Western Romance during the 5th–8th centuries. To distinguish it within that group in comparative linguistics it is called Daco-Romanian as opposed to its closest relatives, Aromanian, Megleno-Romanian, and Istro-Romanian.
As a Romance language, Romanian evolved from Latin, just like other Romance languages such as Spanish, Italian, and French. However, it has also been influenced by neighboring languages such as Slavic and Hungarian.
Romanian has a complex grammar system with a rich set of inflections for nouns, adjectives, and verbs. It also has three genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter) and five cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, and vocative) for nouns and adjectives. Verbs are conjugated for tense, aspect, and mood, with both simple and compound forms.
In terms of pronunciation, Romanian has a distinctive feature called “nasalisation,” which means that vowels are pronounced with a nasal sound when followed by certain consonants, such as “m” or “n.” It also has a complex system of vowel and consonant sounds, with a total of seven vowels and several distinct consonants.
The Romanian alphabet is based on the Latin script, with five additional letters: ă, â, î, ș, and ț. The letters â, î, and ă represent different vowel sounds, while ș and ț represent unique consonant sounds.
Somehow I call Romania my second home. Or third :). In 2001, I register a special domain for my personal site: KUN.CO.RO, and since then I considered myself as a virtual Romanian
In June 2019, at last I could see Romania — visited Bucharest & Brasov. I bought 1 special edition of Micul Prinţ in each city.
